Jiva Organics Mishri Rock Sugar Candy Review #jivaorganics

I'm always up for a new culinary adventure! I was eager to try Jiva Organics Mishri (Rock Candy).  To be quite honest I really didn't know what to expect, so I just to a spoonful and tasted it.  I was pleasantly surprised at the taste, I was nothing like I expected...which was basically for it to taste just like regular table sugar.  It didn't. Mishri is pleasantly sweet, with no after taste. Or any other taste, just wonderfully sweet, pure sugar.

When I shared with the kids, they shared my reaction.  They aren't as hard as they look, and are nice and crunchy.  After tasting I got on the ol' interwebs to find out, what in the heck to do with Mishri. As it turns out, these large crystals of sugar are made of pure sugar and water. That's it...nothing else.  It is used all over the world,  and originated in India and Persia, where it is used to sweeten tea, eaten straight as a candy or combined with spices and seeds to make natural breath fresheners. It is also used for home remedies such as impotence, memory boosting, brain strengthening, common cold and sore throat.

So far we have used Jiva Organics Mishri in tea and coffee but our favorite way to use it is just eating it straight out of the bag.  Because of the size and shape of these sweet crystals I thought they would make a gorgeous garnish on desserts.
