For some of us Back to School is just around the corner or has already started. For those of you looking for something fun (and educational) to do during the last few weeks of summer I've got just the thing!
As you may very well know, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning has become increasingly more important in our children's education. Schools are putting greater emphasis on these activities as they will be in demand in the future. But honestly, let's face it, not all of us are good at math, technologically advanced, mechanically inclined or scientifically inclined, for that matter.... (but we are huge video game, book and toy nerds!) Think Fun takes the guesswork out of it for you!
New from the makers of fine logic games and really cool computer programming games, Robot Turtles and Code Master, Think Fun has just introduced a line of new toys that encourages kids to think like an engineer.
The Maker Studio Gears Set was by designed by engineers for budding engineers!

Maker Studio inspires imagination and a love for engineering, this set features "gears." With this kit you will be able to build a race car, a cable car, and more, using the essentials from the kit and some items from around that house that your were going to throw out or toss in the recycle bin. Not only does the kit include a step by step guide but also has "engineering challenges" that encourage kids (and grownups) to experiment with friction, torque and propulsion to find solutions to the problems presented. You can even combine the three available sets (Gears, Propellers, and Winches) to make your own cool contraptions!

Teenie made a cable car with her Gears Set! |
The minions were fascinated and excited by these kits because not only could they build the cool projects included, they could also play with them in different ways by using the engineering challenges included to tweak their creations. The pieces included are well made and the directions are easy enough to follow that they could both complete builds on their own. As a homeschooler I liked that these kids are pretty affordable at 19.99 each, so you can teach hand-on learning without going broke!
