I frequently can my own jams and pickles and such. However, the lids that I use to seal my jars are one-time use only, then I have to toss them... So wasteful. The same with bottle caps...So I thought why not use them for something? Teenie and I collected a bunch and decided to use them to make plates, platters and bowls for our dolls.
Here's what you need to do this super easy craft:
Canning lids from either regular and/or wide mouth canning jars, they can be used, just make sure they are clean.
some bottle caps
spray paint that will cover metal (We use Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X) in what ever color you what your dishes to be.
Newspapers
1. Clean lids and dry them thoroughly.
2. Spread newspapers in a well ventilated area and lay lids and bottle caps bottom side up.
3. Shake spray paint really well, then spray from a distance of about 8-12 inches, while making a sweeping motion. If you spray too close it will cause runs and drip marks. Do a light coat for best results, you can always add more later. Let dry.
4. After the paint is completely dry, flip the lids and caps over and paint the top side repeating step three. Let dry.
Wide mouth lids make great platters and bottle caps make great bowls for Barbie, Monster High, Ever After High and other 11 1/2 inch dolls.
Regular mouth lids make great plates for Our Generation and American Girl Dolls.
