"God Jul!" Today we will be studying traditions in Sweden.
To prepare:
You will need a large piece of white card stock or paper for each boy participating.
Things to do:
- Find the country on the world map and color it. (Click the link "World:Countries")
- Print out country outline to color. Label the capitol city. (Right click and select 'Save image as' then print from your computer. Uncheck 'Fit picture to frame')
- Print and use the country notebooking page to keep in your file folder.

Crafts:
Make a St.Lucia Crown / Star Boy Hat
Make a St. Lucia crown for girls and a Star Boy hat for boys. You can make them all out of paper and use glitter to decorate. I like the examples here.
Make "Swedish Oranges" aka pomanders. Simply poke cloves into oranges. Wrap with ribbon and hang or place in a bowl. Watch:

The Disney special "From All of Us to All of You" Part 1 and Part 2 it's an old special and certainly not politically correct at times...I rememer seeing this as a kid and loving it. Then they stopped showing it on tv here in the US, probably because it isn't very "politically correct." It's amazing how you don't notice things like that when you are a kid. In Sweden it's known as: Kalle Anka och hans vänner önskar God Jul (Donald Duck and His Friends Wish You a Merry Christmas"). Did you know that Donald Duck is more popular than Mickey Mouse in Sweden?

I love Kåldomar (Stuffed Cabbage Rolls) my father in law introduced me to these years ago and shared his recipe. They are simple and delicious. These are traditionally served with brown gravy and ligonberries. But I live in the desert and those are pretty hard to find out here...and expensive to order online. However if you live near an IKEA they carry it there. Dad in law likes to serve these with barbecue sauce or tomato sauce either way these are great. Even the kids like them!
