My kids love building toys and the creativity and freedom that they allow. I love building toys for the same reasons, but also because these toys help to develop fine motor skills and coordination. Which to me, is essential when buying toys, especially if you have a child that needs additional help in that area, like I do. They also help to teach STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills by giving kids the opportunity to build structures and even motorized vehicles and other contraptions that move. I also like the way they directly affect the way kids learn cause, effect, problem solving and logic to make the structures in their minds come to life. Building toys can even help to develop essential life skills like team work and collaboration, when the kids work together to build larger creations.
I'm a real sucker for educational toys. Especially ones that are fun, and the K'NEX line of products definitely fit the bill, and they are also MADE IN THE USA!! While building we did encounter an issue, as the Plants vs. Zombies kit had the wrong set of instructions. However, this was an easy fix because the knex.com website has building instructions for all of their products! Instructions are super easy to find too, just find your product in the store and select building instructions on the product page. Or you can also click on "Building Help" and search by model number. While on the site I also found that they offer "Bonus Builds," which equals more bang for your buck! The geniuses at K'NEX share building guides for tons of other projects that you can make with the building sets you already own!
