Pixie Candy's Projects - Kids Sewing DVD Review

My kids love to create, especially Teenie. She is always in my craft stuff rummaging around in things so she can make little homemade crafts for gifts.  Needless to say she when the Pixie Candy's Project kid's sewing arrived, she was ECSTATIC!  First of all, it arrived in a hot pink bubble mailer, so naturally Teen begged me to let her open it.   The look on her face when she saw this DVD was priceless! Teenie loves to sew however, the patterns that she picks or that are aimed towards kid her age are far too difficult for a beginner and I usually end up finishing them for her.  So when I saw that this DVD is loaded with information to help the beginning seamstress get started, I was impressed.

So we decided to take this baby on a test drive. We set up our area with the sewing machine, and materials.  The first thing that I noticed is that there are NO patterns. There is actually a section on the DVD that teaches how to draft all of the patterns for the projects on the DVD.  It's was really easy to follow because the lovely hostess, Katrina Marie, teaches everything step by step.  I even learned something new!

I have tons of craft materials laying around the house and we had just about everything to make the projects on the DVD, except for the quilt batting, and I really didn't feel like getting in my 400 degree car, and driving miles and miles to the nearest crafts store to go get any. We ended up just using fiber fill. Other than that, we followed the video step by step.  She decided to make the plush pillow and the neck roll.  The video was easy to follow, and didn't move so fast that we got lost.  Teenie was able to do everything herself with a little supervision!

As it turns out this video was on the first one in the series of 7 videos and each is named after a different character.  "Candy" is the first in the series and is followed by Mandy, Pandy, Sandy, Tandy, Zandy and Andy (projects that are perfect to make for boys).  Each video includes instructions for a several projects and advance through the series.  There is also a couple of videos that teach how to make dolls and doll clothes. And Teenie is anxious to try them all!
